Course objectives
The theoretical part of classroom sessions provides an overview of the underlying concepts in BasaleStimulation. In the practical part, students will be trained in model situations while learning to identify and satisfy the needs of patients with altered communicative and perceptive abilities. Acquired competencies: Students should achieve a level of specialist knowledge and skills sufficient to foster implementation of the BasaleStimulation concept in clinical practice. Course graduates will be able to provide highly specialized and qualified care within the scope of nursing while continuously developing care plans (expected outcomes) and evaluating changes in client status.

    1. Basic characteristics of the BasaleStimulation (BS) concept
    2. History of the BasaleStimulation concept, its present applications
    3. Prominent thinkers of the BS tradition and available publications
    4. Nursing care issues in a person with altered sensation, communication and mobility
    5. Developmental psychology, ontogenesis of perception in the prenatal period
    6. Communication, channels of communication in the BS concept
    7. The importance of senses
    8. Somatic perception
    9. Hands in care, therapeutic touch in nursing
    10. The initial touch
    11. Contact breathing
    12. Breathing faciliatation by massage
    13. Nursing care plan design in the BS concept
    14. Biography and personal history
    15. Family engagement in care
    16. The Big Nine (major outcomes incorporated in the care plan)
    17. Client biography and its importance, structuring care plans in the nursing process
