- Course objectives
- The course is conceived as theoretical and practical units. It completes nursing courses in the field of primary and tertiary care. It focuses on human health in community. Students will understand the meaning of the term "community", its main social functions in satisfying human needs and its hierarchy: individual-family-precinct-town-district-state-nation-world. They shall recognize necessity of health social and natural environments in the community for lives of individuals and their families. They shall learn procedures of caring of clients/patients at home. The course shall acquaint students with the organizational scheme of home care agencies and applicable legislative regulations for their activities. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The students can define the following terms: community, community care, home care. They orientate themselves in the process of nursing care in a community. They orientate themselves in applicable legislative regulations. Professional skills: The students can describe principles of nursing care in a community, they understand the structure of home care and are able to implement the above-mentioned findings while being in contact with clients. General ability: The students can decide independently and to choose the right type of community work and care of individuals or groups conscientiously. If needed, they are able to draft a structure of a home care agency. Competence: The students shall further improve and deepen their capability of orientation in the field of community care, either theoretically or practically.

- 1. Development of communities in the EU - territorial administrative units - theories of community development.
2. Community care (a new concept of primary medical care). Nursing process in a community.
3. Nursing care in a community (a role of a nurse and a midwife in community care).
4. Community nursing standards.
5. Community as a client - a definition of a community according to WHO (1974); factors influencing health of a community.
6. Community nursing care of women.
7. Home care (community home care philosophy, organizational scheme, team, differences in providing of nursing care at home; quality principles of home care).
8. Care of family (alcohol abuse, violence, handicapped child, psychiatric diseases, handicaps, chronic diseases, lack of finance for dwelling and food, etc.).
9. Care of women and mothers.
10. Care of suckling babies and pre-school children.
11. Care of schoolchildren. Care of adolescents. Care of adults at the working age.
12. Care of senior citizens. Care of chronic patients. Care of handicapped. Care of dying people.
