Course objectives
The course contents consist in nurse knowledge and skills important for understanding of the significance of the clients' / patients' leisure time. It is focused mainly on seniors, but it also provides information on other age categories including children. It provides exercises with music, suitable both for seniors and for people with mental retardation; it points out new opportunities of leisure time activities of seniors and handicapped people. Having finished the course, the students will have good grasp of the issues of leisure activities of seniors and handicapped people.

  • 1. Leisure time, definitions, terminology.
    2. Significance of leisure time for humans.
    3. Leisure time of seniors.
    4. Leisure time of other age categories.
    5. Exercise for seniors with music, sitting and on a wheelchair.
    6. Exercised aimed at the development of fine motor skills 1.
    7. Exercised aimed at the development of fine motor skills 2.
    8. Development of seniors' cognitive functions.
    9. Specific activities focused on the development of cognitive functions.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
80% active attendance at practical sessions (the teacher can specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons)
Presentation of a selected topic in a seminar practical session.
Credit requirements: Defence and analysis of a seminar essay.
