- Course objectives
- The course is designed as theoretical-practical complex. It completes nursing courses in the field of primary and tertiary care. It focuses on human health in a community. The students will understand the meaning of the term "community", its main social functions in satisfying human needs and its hierarchy: individual-family-precinct-town-district-state-nation-world. They will recognize the necessity of a healthy social and natural environment in the community for the life of individuals and their families. They will learn procedures of caring for clients / patients at home. The course shall also acquaint the students with the organizational structure of the services of home care agencies and with the legislation applicable to their activities.

- Organization of health care services. Community as a client - a definition of community according to WHO (1974), factors influencing the health of the community.
Community and community care, development of communities in the EU - territorial administrative units - theories of community development.
General principles of community care, community planning, community services and institutions.
Community nursing, nursing process in community.
Role of general nurse in community care. Standards of community nursing.
Use of classification systems in community nursing.
Home care (home care philosophy, home care organization, differences in providing nursing care at home), home care agencies, National Centre of Home Care.
Forms of home health care, scope of the care provided.
Family as a client, family definition and function, characteristics and changes of the family, family assessment, family health needs, home visits.
Community care for children.
Community care at schools, school nurse.
Community care for women.
Community care for persons with special needs (groups endangered by social exclusion, homeless people).
Community care for persons with mental disease, with addiction.
Community care for handicapped persons.
Community care for seniors.
Community care in multicultural environment.

80% attendance at practical sessions (the teacher can specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons)
Credit requirements: processing of a selected topic in an extent of 5-7 pages and the respective presentation and defence.
