- Course objectives
- The course is aimed at acquainting the students with the latest knowledge in the field of nursing care for physiological new-borns and with classification of new-borns. The course describes care for new-borns, basic terminology, priorities of perinatal care, WHO recommendations for care for new-borns, main initiatives of Zdraví 21 (Health 21) program. Having finished the course, the students have good grasp of basic care for new-borns, nursing assessment under use of nursing anamnesis methods, they are acquainted with planning and assessing the care.
- Syllabus
- 1. Physiological newborn - basic terminology, factors affecting perinatal results.
2. Newborn classification - pathological, high-risk, hypothrophic, post-term newborn.
3. WHO recommendations for newborn care - holistic care focused on family, initiatives of Zdraví 21 program.
4. Nursing assessment of newborn's somatic signs.
5. Newborn's needs from holistic perspective.
6. Nursing anamnesis / assessment of a newborn.
7. Planning and assessment of care for a newborn.
8. Assessment methods for physiological newborn - interview.
9. Assessment methods for physiological newborn - interview with newborn's mother, monitoring, physical examination, screening of a newborn.
10. Interventions during the first treatment of a newborn after delivery, first contact with the mother, rooming-in.
11. Interventions during treatment of a newborn in the first week after birth.
12. Assessment methods of general newborn's condition - needs from holistic perspective.
13. Standard plans of care for selected conditions - diagnostics, expected results (goals, criteria), nursing interventions, assessment.
14. Nursing documentation in care for physiological newborn, records mastering, hard copy / electronic form.
15. Education of newborn's mother, monitoring, physical examinations, newborn screening.
