The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives (in Czech)
The course examines politics and power through an anthropological perspective and introduces main themes of political and social anthropology during 20th and beginning of 21th century. Students receive a general overview about political systems, social mechanisms and processes and they will be able to orientate in basic terms and key topics of political, social and partly economic anthropology.

  • 1. Introduction to political and social anthropology, anthropology of political philosophy
    2. The production, distribution, exchange and consumption of wealth
    3. Nationalism and war, political systems, non-state societies, state and its enemies
    4. Decision-making and game theory from anthropological perspectives
    5. The role of political opposition, trajectories of power, revolutions and uprisings
    6. Law, justice and violence
