Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present the rules and functioning of civil society on the principle of unionization in non-profit organisations. The students will learn both the primary general characteristics of non-profit sector and history and current law bases, economic conditions and socio-political connections of functioning of non-governmental non-profit organisations in the Czech republic. Besides to theoretical managing of the issue and introduction of current data regarding non-profit sector in the Czech republic, the students will in the frame of their seminar paper also make an analysis of function, role and practical content of activities of concrete non-governmental non-profit organisations on local and regional level. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students can define basic concepts of communication theory. They can describe and explain the basics of the functioning of this sector, enumerate the individual types of non-governmental non-profit organizations, including their specific features. Professional Skills: The students are able to work efficiently in the non-profit sector, aware of the functional principles of the non-profit sector and able to provide basic characteristic of the sector based on the knowledge gained from the seminar in this field. General Qualification: The students are aware of the perspectives of the non-profit sector for further development of civil society and can initiate the establishment of a non-governmental non-profit organization.

In-class presentation and production of a term paper which in its first part maps and analyses the non-profit sector of a selected municipality, and in its second part brings a detailed profile of a selected NGO and an analysis of its activities.
