Course objectives
The course is designed as theoretical course. It extends the medical knowledge required by professional clinical nursing in the area of care for oral cavity. It familiarizes with preventive care in stomatology for children and adults and with most frequent clinical conditions and oral cavity diseases.
Syllabus
  • 1. Preventive stomatology.
    2. Caries (definition, prevalence, causes, clinical manifestation, therapy and care). Periodontal diseases (definition, prevalence, causes, clinical manifestation, therapy and care). Orthodontics; preserving stomatology; periodontics.
    3. Oral cavity diseases (necrotizing ulcerous gingivitis, candidosis albicans, aphtha, herpes simplex, salivary gland diseases).
    4. Malign oral cavity diseases (etiology, clinical manifestation, therapy and care).
    5. Dental surgery (congenital defects, glossectomy, mandibulectomy, traumas, cosmetic changes).
    6. Practical training in dentist's surgery; field trip to special dental surgery ward.
    7. Care for oral cavity in patient with AIDS and HIV positive patient.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
Credit requirement: written test, cut-off score: 80%.
