Course objectives
Students will expand their knowledge of means of expression - English terminology in relation to special pedagogy and disability symptomatology. They will further deepen their knowledge of the personalities of English-speaking countries who have fundamentally influenced the development of the field of special education. Emphasis will continue to be placed on working with and understanding foreign language texts, searching for information related to special pedagogy. Students will also gain a more detailed overview of English terminology in the field of speech therapy, deaf therapy, ophthalmopedics, somatopedia, psychopedia and autism spectrum disorders.
Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- expand their active and passive vocabulary - deepen their knowledge of English terminology with a link to the field of special pedagogy by learning isolated English terms and through work with foreign language texts
- obtain an overview of selected current publications of English-speaking authors with a link to the field of special pedagogy and improve their current knowledge about the field by searching for information
- deepen their knowledge of important personalities of English-speaking countries with a connection to the field of special pedagogy
- expand their language skills in the field of special needs (physical, mental and social)
- improve their knowledge in the field of speech therapy, deaf therapy, ophthalmopedics, somatopedia, psychopedia and in the field of autism spectrum disorders in the English language in connection with the knowledge acquired in the Czech language
Professional skills:
- improve understanding of the English language
- will further deepen the overview of education and employment opportunities for people with special needs in selected areas of English-speaking countries and in the Czech Republic by working with texts and independent search of information in the media
- expand their awareness of job opportunities and other life realizations of people with special needs by watching short documents and discussing them
General competences:
- increase awareness of educational processes in other European countries

Assessment methods
Entry level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference. The condition for credit award is fulfilment of all assignments in the e-learning environment Moodle.

Teacher's information
In course of continuous study, students use the study material, processing it to fulfil selected correspondence assignments which will be discussed in conclusion of the course. At the exam, students demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and lectures of the in-person instruction. Students will be able to continuously consult the topics studied individually or in teams, via e-mail, or in consultations upon request.
