Course objectives
Students will learn the basic means of expression - current English terminology in relation to special education, symptomatology of disability in the English language. They will acquire basic knowledge about personalities from English-speaking countries who have significantly influenced the development of the discipline of special pedagogy. Emphasis will be placed on working with foreign language texts and searching for information linked to special education. Students will be introduced to the problems of education in English-speaking countries and especially of the implementation of care of disabled people and their education.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge:
- students will expand their active and passive vocabulary in basic English terminology relating to special pedagogy by learning isolated English words and through work with foreign language texts
- they will gain an overview of selected current publications of English-speaking authors relevant to special pedagogy and they will improve their existing knowledge in the area of information retrieval
- they will gain an overview of important personages from English-speaking countries connected with special pedagogy
- students will be able to describe special physical, psychological or social needs
Professional Skills:
- students can explain the differences in implementation of education and status of persons with special needs in selected areas of English-speaking countries and in the Czech Republic
- they broaden their knowledge about the possibilities of life self-realization of persons with special needs by viewing short documentaries and discussing them
- they improve their skills in understanding the English language
General qualification:
- they extend their knowledge of educational processes in other countries

Entry level A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference. The condition for credit award is fulfilment of all assignments in the e-learning environment Moodle.

Teacher's information
Personal contact in teaching, consulting hours. During continuous study, the student uses the study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here he will also demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the subject through e-mail, individual or group consultations.
