- Course objectives
- The main goal of the course is to convey information from the field of special psychiatry that can be used in the field of special education. Partial tasks include familiarization with the division of mental disorders according to the International Classification of Diseases; with diseases from the range of organic mental disorders, addictions, neurotic disorders, disorders, affect and psychoses, with diseases from the range of eating disorders, sexual dysfunctions, personality disorders; with mental illnesses occurring in childhood, with disorders of psychological development and with the problems of transcultural psychiatry.
- Learning outcomes
- Expertise:
- the student orients himself in the division of mental disorders according to the valid International Classification of Diseases
- the student has basic knowledge about the symptoms of organic mental disorders, addictions, neurotic disorders, affect disorders and psychoses
- the student orients himself in the problems of diseases related to eating disorders, sexual dysfunctions, personality disorders, disorders of psychological development and mental illnesses occurring in childhood
- the student has basic knowledge about the problems of transcultural psychiatry
- the student orients himself in the highly specialized theoretical knowledge of biological conditioning and social determination in the broader context of the development and formation of the human personality in the sense of special disorders
Professional skills:
- the student recognizes and is able to relevantly describe the symptoms of individual mental disorders
- the student is able to propose suitable solutions in connection with the patient's health condition
- the student is able to provide support to the patient when the condition worsens
- the student is able to advise where to seek professional help
General qualifications:
- the student can independently choose an appropriate, productive approach when contacting an individual with a mental illness, which is adequate for special pedagogical practice
- the student knows the possibilities of counseling assistance and the connection with the specific practice of helping professions and institutions

- Assessment methods
- Student activity during teaching, seminar work, written credit test. The seminar work will be prepared on the given topic, in the minimum range of 4-6 pages (the aim of the seminar work will be to recognize the problems and limitations of the patient caused by a mental disorder and to propose appropriate interventions to improve his overall condition and quality of life). Submitting the seminar paper is a condition for registering for the credit test. Credit test with a minimum success rate of 70%.

- The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
- Teacher's information
- Personal contact in lessons, consultation hours. During ongoing studies, the student uses study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here, at the same time, he will demonstrate his knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied subject topics via e-mail, individual or group consultations. The subject has an e-learning course prepared in IS SU and a team established in MS Teams, which also serves as another possible tool for communication with the teacher and between students.
