Course objectives
The aim of the lecture course Introduction to pedagogy is to map basic educational disciplines, terminology and theory. Attention focuses on grasping the issues of the relation between pedagogical theory and practice, as well as on selected philosophical aspects of education. The study follows the basic line of key knowledge of the structure and function of pedagogy as a science. At the end of this course, students will be able to define basic pedagogical notions, explain the nature and structure of education as a science, define current problems of pedagogy and outline possible solutions for them, evaluate the significance of the contribution of the topics covered for pedagogical theory and practice.

- students will be able to apply the expert knowledge gained in the school environment and working with groups of children and youth

- students can individually name the various phenomena in the discipline of education and specifically respond to them
Syllabus
  • 1. Education as a science of education. Defining the concept of pedagogy.
  • 2. Structure of education sciences.Auxiliary pedagogical sciences.Reform and alternative schools of the 20th century and their comparison with traditional schools. Educational principles/principles.
  • 3. Basic educational concepts throughout history.Jan Amos Komenský's contribution to the development of Czech and world pedagogy.
  • 4. Definition of basic concepts: upbringing and education. Self-education and re-education. Functions of the school. Trends in contemporary education. Formal, non-formal and informal education.
  • 5. Upbringing as a pedagogical process. The course and stages of the educational process. School education and literacy.
  • 6. The aims of education, characteristic functions of the aims of education.Personality and competence of the teaching staff. Social and didactic communication.
  • 7. Conditions of upbringing (biological, psychological and social).Principles of good parenting.
  • 8. Forms of upbringing and means of education.
  • 9. Education content. Components of education - general definition.
  • 10. Rational education and world-view. Moral education. Sub-components: multicultural education and media education.Education for humanism, illusion and modern trends in the current school.
  • 11. Technical and work education. Art and aesthetic education. Physical education, education towards health and healthy lifestyle. Sub-component: environmental education. Overview of selected manifestations of risk behaviour among children in elementary and secondary schools.
  • 12. Personality and competence of the educated individual (child, pupil, student). The relationship between family and school.

Oral examination. A prerequisite for the oral exam is written elaboration of a correspondence assignment.
