Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to build on Basics of Sign Language I, both within the framework of theory and within the framework of practical teaching of sign language and the building of additional sign stock. The student is introduced to the topic of communication and the needs of people with hearing impairment in society in a deeper context and completes an excursion to a facility for people with hearing impairment, either in the department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs or within the Ministry of Education, Youth and physical education.
Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- the student orients himself in the problems of people with hearing impairment
- the student knows the theoretical connections with the topic of communication systems of people with hearing impairment
- the student understands basic terminology and legislative measures
- the student orients himself in the main differences and needs of people with hearing impairment
Professional skills:
- the student is able to use basic hand positions within individual signs of everyday life
- the student can use characters from the recommended character set
- the student can use classifiers and specific characters
- the student is able to reflect and use the work of the whole body, connected with visual-motor means of communication
General qualifications:
- the student can communicate independently within the framework of the given and expanded character set
- the student can apply the stock of signs in normal communication, conversation and narration

  • 1. Introduction to the study
  • 2.-4. Review of basic vocabulary
  • 5-6 Negative, imperative and question in Czech sign language
  • 7-8 Numerals, expression of time (present, future and past)
  • 9. Work with space, incorporation of characters
  • 10. Specific characters - most often used
  • 11. Communication with people with hearing impairment in practice
  • 12. Social services for the hearing impaired - excursion

Assessment methods
Active participation in classes (min. 80% attendance), theoretical written credit test (successful completion according to the evaluation indicators is a condition for an oral interview), interview with the lecturer in Czech sign language, own narration.

Teacher's information
Personal contact in lessons, consultation hours. During ongoing studies, the student uses study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here, at the same time, he will demonstrate his knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied subject topics via e-mail, individual or group consultations. The subject has an e-learning course prepared in IS SU and a team established in MS Teams, which also serves as another possible tool for communication with the teacher and between students.
