Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of crisis communication.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to explain the essence of crisis communication, the types of crises, and the psychology of human behaviour in emergency situations; recognize the needs and reactions of people in crisis and apply appropriate communication techniques, including active listening; identify the risks of media communication and use the principles of effective communication with the media; select suitable media channels and procedures when addressing an organization’s media-related problems; describe the role of employees in crisis communication and establish the basic elements of both internal and external communication during a crisis; distinguish between aggressive, passive, and assertive communication styles and apply assertiveness and negotiation skills in crisis situations; apply the principles of crisis communication in high-pressure and media-exposed situations; explain the causes and development of conflicts and use appropriate methods for resolving them in social and crisis-related contexts; and prepare and deliver a brief media statement or presentation for various types of media.

1. Crisis communication, crisis and its consequences Nature, definition, psychology of crisis situations, relation to other disciplines. Development, types of crises, circumstances of occurrence. 2. Needs and reactions of people in crisis situations, reputation of the organization Types of emotional states and their reflection in a specific communication situation. Dynamics of needs and interests in a crisis situation, reputation as a communication filter. 3. Employees in crisis communication, Internet crisis communication Correct setting of crisis communication in a crisis situation. Crisis website, role of social media. 4. Assertive communication, negotiation in crisis situations Characteristics, definitions, practical examples. Nature of negotiation, types of negotiation, practical examples. 5. Media communication in crisis situations, crisis communication in pressure situations Role, importance, practical examples. Essence, types, practical examples. 6. Crisis communication in the social sphere, crisis communication in complex life situations Types, ways of coping, aspects of threat. Essence, types, practical examples. 7.
