Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary knowledge in a comprehensive way to enable their better orientation in a relatively complex area of managing innovations and enable them to apply their knowledge of innovations and relevant methods connected with their management in practice. Innovations managers need to know, analyze and respond to changes in the national, international and global environment and also needs to be able to successfully apply knowledge of specific management attitudes, methods and skills that determine the success of innovations in business, national and international context.
Syllabus
  • Innovation, business innovation, innovation theory. Creativity and innovation, innovation firms.
    Definitions of innovation, invention and innovation theories are explained there. Their significance for success in business is presented too. Innovation process phases, innovation life cycle in business are viewed. Creativity and its impact on effective innovation process follows. Then come the techniques creativity and innovations in enterprises support.
    Innovation activities in business, innovation management, effective mechanisms of introducing innovations, measurement and indicators.
    The definition of innovation activities in business, innovation management are presented there. Mechanisms of introducing innovations on market, commercial results measurement and indicators are follow it.
    The evaluation and support of innovation in the world, the EU and in the Czech Republic.
    The national, sectoral and regional innovation systems. Ethical dimension of innovations
    The policy, support and evaluation of innovation in the global, EU and national context are explained in this theme. Then the innovation systems, key institutions and stakeholders are introduced there. The impacts on society, sustainable development and ethical context are mentioned then.
    Basic approaches of business innovation strategy creation. The acquisition of knowledge for innovations creation and knowledge management.
    This topic defines business innovation strategy, reasons and approaches for its creation. It explains its significance for the long-term success and competitiveness of a firm as well as impacts on operational running a business. Theories, models, tools of knowledge management and connections with the business strategy are explained as well as an impact on success of a whole enterprise, its individual functional areas and firm culture.
    Technology transfer into practice, commercialization and evaluation of research results. Institutions supporting innovations in business.
    This theme explains process of transferring skills, knowledge, technologies, samples of manufacturing and facilities into the real application. The certain exploitation is in real products, processes, materials, services, utilization. The role of institutions supporting innovations in business is explained.
    Intellectual property, financing of innovation and innovation process, risk capital.
    This topic explains the area of intellectual property as a result of intellectual activities. It defines and shows kinds of IP, IP rights, forms of transfer. It also concerns a question of financing innnovations in every phase of innovation process. It presents different sources of financing, their advantages and risks for a business.
