Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to innovation management
    Importance of innovative thinking and the basics of innovation theory. The relationships between competitions, influences of business environment, managerial capture and the provision of value through innovation and related activities. The role of innovation - oriented companies in the market.
    2. Techniques and tools of innovation management
    The basic repertoire of tools traditionally associated with innovation management. Innovative projects and their structure. Use of tools involving risk and uncertainty. Management practices for innovations – assessment of knowledge-oriented organizations. 3. Innovation performance and its measurement Obtaining information about innovations, evaluation of inputs and outputs of innovations. Financial and non - financial performance indicators. Setup and use of several key performance indicators (KPIs) of various dimensions (e.g. costs, time, quality, ability for innovation, customer satisfaction and flexibility), which serve as a basis for the evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the innovation performance.
    4. Innovative strategic orientation
    Extension of the theoretical foundations of innovation management and the creation of innovation strategies and strategy formulation. Basic approaches creating an effective innovation strategy. Taking advantage of opportunities and differences in the market. Strategic orientation corresponds to shape managerial decision-making in a company.
    5. Interdisciplinary relations in innovations
    Basic principles of innovation network management. Support of education and knowledge as an important advantage for problem-oriented research and innovation creation. Scale-up tendencies in innovative business, cooperation in research and development. Networks, network effects and innovative ecosystems.
    6. Resource management for innovation
    The determinants of firms’ innovation success. Resource optimization for innovation. Financial interconnection of companies and venture capital. Role of an acquisition of external projects within the innovation policy of the company. Protection of intellectual and industrial property.
    7. Support for innovative entrepreneurship
    Relationship between growth and the use of support infrastructures for innovative entrepreneurship. Possibilities of public support for innovation. Role of innovation centres, innovation accelerators, incubators, technology centers, and universities which can positively affect y innovate companies' growth.
