Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the status and importance of tourism in the international arena. Attention will also be paid to the basic terminology and measurement methods of international tourism statistics, international organizations and private actors in international tourism, the regional distribution of international tourism, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the role of international tourism in the European context.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - define the basic concepts of international tourism;
- summarise the main features of international tourism;
- compare the regional distribution of international tourism;
- list selected UNESCO sites in international tourism.

  • 1. Introduction to international tourism
    International tourism. Definition of basic terms. Approaches to Assessing the Importance of Tourism in the World Economy 2. International tourism and its role in the world economy
    International Tourism and the World Economy. Tourism in international economic relations. Quantitative assessment of the position of tourism in the world economy 3. Statistical monitoring of international tourism
    Definition and main institutions of static monitoring of international tourism. Statistical monitoring of selected institutions 4. Regional distribution of international tourism
    Regional distribution of international tourism according to the the UNWTO. Subregional distribution of international tourism according to UNWTO. Europe as the dominant region of world tourism 5. UNESCO monuments and international tourism
    World Heritage. Types of monuments. Tangible and intangible heritage of UNESCO. Significance of the World Heritage List. UNESCO monuments in selected European countries and in the world
    6. International organizations and private entities in international tourism
    Definition of international organizations. World Tourism Organization. World Council of Travel and Tourism. Organization for Economic Co - operation and Development. Organizations and programs in the UN system. Private subjects of international tourism. Hotel groups. Travel agencies 7. Sustainability in international tourism
    Positive and negative impact of tourism. Possibilities of solving the negative effects of tourism. The role of international organizations in the promotion of sustainable tourism 8. The position of Europe and the Czech Republic in international tourism
    The impact of the European integration process on tourism. Europe 2020. Institutional tourism provision of tourism in the European Union. Legislative regulation of European tourism. The position of the Czech Republic in international tourism. Institutional provision in the Czech Republic.
