- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic concepts in the field of tourism market, competition, the structure of the satellite account of tourism, economics and management of tourism, including the efficiency of the tourism company.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to distinguish and explain the fundamental concepts associated with tourism, including its types and functions, and explain its significance for the green economy. They will be able to compare the pillars and indicators of sustainability and apply sustainable development principles within tourism enterprises. Students will be able to explain the functioning of the tourism system and analyse its types, forms, components, and influencing factors, including their impacts on the environment. They will be capable of comparing examples of services provided by tourism enterprises and evaluating their contribution to the green economy. Furthermore, students will be able to define the tourism market, compare its elements and stakeholders, analyse tourism supply and demand, and distinguish between the object and subject of tourism. They will be able to justify the relationships among these components within the context of sustainability and apply this knowledge to specific tourism markets, such as spa tourism and travel agency markets. Students will be able to identify factors influencing pricing, compare pricing methods, apply them to practical situations, and analyse competitive environments. They will also understand the structure and framework of the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA), compare the demand-side and supply-side perspectives, distinguish between tourism industries, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and Gross Value Added (GVA), describe individual TSA tables, and apply them in practice. In addition, they will be able to analyse data derived from tourism satellite accounts. Students will be able to compare tourism organisations and professional tourism associations, analyse and evaluate the impacts of membership on business performance, including its contribution to sustainable development. They will also be able to explain and critically assess both the positive and negative impacts of tourism development within a region, with particular emphasis on sustainability and environmental protection. Moreover, students will be able to identify and evaluate the effects of tourism multipliers and analyse their environmental implications. They will understand tourism management systems and apply them to practical examples while considering the use of green skills and sustainable management practices. Finally, students will be able to classify concepts related to business management and operational efficiency, assess their significance for managerial decision-making, and apply methods of comprehensive business performance evaluation with regard to sustainability principles and long-term organisational development.

- 1. Tourism, importance and market of tourism Tourism and importance for the economy. Typology and function of tourism, specification of basic components of tourism. Tourism services and their classification. 2. Tourism market Concept of tourism market, market subjects and market objects of tourism, supply in tourism, demand in tourism, consumption in tourism. 3. Price and competition in the tourism market Price and factors influencing price formation, pricing practices, price discrimination and its forms. Competitiveness and its measurement, approaches to achieving a competitive advantage. 4. Tourism Satellite Account Basic structure of tourism satellite account, basic TSA system, TSA tables. Definition of characteristic industries and products of travel ear. Unofficial satellite account of tourism. 5. Institutional management and organization of tourism Tourism organization, assumptions, legal forms, principles of activity. Strategies of tourism organizations and their impact on the region. Basic types of tourism organizations in the EU and in the world, European and international associations. 6. Economics and management of tourism Basic information from the field of economics and management of regional tourism, benefits and negative impacts of tourism development in the region. Tourism management system and organization of tourism in regions, sustainable development of tourism. 7. Efficiency of a tourism company Costs, revenues and economic result in tourism enterprises. Business efficiency, methods of comprehensive business evaluation.
