Course objectives (in Czech)
The aim of this advanced course is to bring students to an internationally recognised level of written and spoken English. Past experience has shown that it opens new opportunities to students in companies, teaching etc. because it shows that the student has reached a very high competence in general English.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • 1. All you need is love
    Picture discussion, picture prompts (It's the thing you use for..).
    Reading: words about love and marriage; reading about pop songs for comprehension.
    Use of English: reported statements and questions.
    Composition: discursive, writing an article expressing your opinion
    Listening: people talking in different situations, matching with topics list.
    Revision and extension, Listening test: Revision of units 5 and 6.
    2. It's all in the mind
    Reading: : words about education, How to boost your memory.
    Use of English: gerunds and infinitives; adjectives and verbs followed by prepositions.
    Listening, use of English: still, yet or already: Another look at reported speech.
    Composition: Background reading texts
    Revision and extension: discussion on reading English books and writing reviews
    3. Review and extra practice
    Reported speech: punctuation errors to be corrected; from direct speech to reported speech;
    from reported speech to direct speech; narrative tenses and error correction.
    4. The price of fame
    Picture discussion; talking about the rich and famous
    Reading: words about entertainment; Guitar Legends, identifying synonyms
    Use of English: present perfect.
    Listening: learning phrases for agreeing and disagreeing.
    Composition: report writing
    Revision and extension: word building (noun adjective)
    5. Mock tests
    Taking tests from previous years of FCE.
