Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problems of creation and implementation of activities that affect the function of the state in shaping the social conditions of life of people, groups, and individuals. Clarify focus of social policy in all its sectors.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: The student will explain the function of social systems. Characterize and compare different types of welfare state according to the typology of G. Esping-Andersen. Characterize factors influencing the development and specific form of the welfare state. Define types of social policy in the context of the type of welfare state. Characterize the development of Czech social policy. Define social inclusion and social exclusion, explain its mechanisms. Identify groups of people at risk of social exclusion, analyze the causes and propose measures within the framework of prevention. Define social prevention, analyze the possibilities of poverty prevention in modern society. Characterize the health policy of the state, interpret the mission of health policy and characterize the institutional structure in the Czech Republic. Define educational and family policy, clarify economic and political aspects that influence the character of educational and family policy. Define the institutional structure of educational policy. Characterize the importance of family policy for society, economic and political aspects that influence it.

Assessment methods
The condition for taking the exam is the presentation of a seminar project on a chosen topic. The project is graded. The exam is in written or oral form (according to the needs of the students). The overall assessment of the course is the average of the grades from the seminar project and the exam.

The course is completed with a combined exam. The condition for acceptance to the exam is a minimum of 70% attendance at seminars and a seminar paper with a mandatory presentation.
