Course objectives
To enable students to orientation in the legal order of the Czech Republic, so that when in contact with the legal issue was eligible to work with a specific legal regulation. General knowledge of legal disciplines a student gets a prerequisite for studying other legal disciplines at the faculty. The course is designed with a focus on the theory of law in general, to the importance of legal regulation in the company, on the acquisition of basic knowledge about concepts and the institutes of the law. Ownership of this issue is a prerequisite for the study of legal disciplines, which are taught on faculty next semesters.
Learning outcomes

The student will be able to navigate the system of legal regulations of the Czech Republic and their mutual relationships; interpret the structure of legal norms, determine types of legal norms and have an overview of the content of individual legal branches so that student can eventually find the relevant sources of legal regulation. Student will have the ability to understand principles and imagine real situations under them. At the same time, student will acquire basic theoretical knowledge, e.g. the concept of law, legal norm, legal relationship, etc. In the main branches of public and private law, the student will acquire competences related to basic life situations, e.g. buying or renting an apartment, claiming goods, liability for damage, etc.

Syllabus

1.      Introduction to the study of law, Legal norms and sources of law in the Czech Republic (the concept of law, law and morality, legal system and structure of law, legal norms and sources of law)


2.      The state and its constitutional foundations (the concept of state, the concept of constitution, the development of modern constitutions)


3.      The Constitution of the Czech Republic (separation of powers in the Czech Republic - legislative, executive, judicial)


4.      Fundamental human rights and freedoms (human rights, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, selected human rights and freedoms in the Czech Republic)


5.      Fundamentals of criminal law (the concept of a crime, its categorization, the perpetrator of a crime, intent, circumstances excluding illegality)


6.      Fundamentals of civil law - persons (persons, legal personality, protection of personality)


7.      Fundamentals of civil law - property rights (property rights, neighborly rights)


8.      Fundamentals of civil law - inheritance (estate, testator, heir, hereditary titles, legacy, (list reservation)


9.      Fundamentals of civil law - obligations arising from contracts (the concept of contract, the process of concluding a contract, pre-contractual liability, usury, disproportionate reduction)


10.  Fundamentals of civil law - obligations arising from contracts II. (selected contracts)


11.  Fundamentals of civil law - obligations arising from unlawful acts (general clauses of liability for damage, subjective and objective liability)


12.  Fundamentals of civil law - obligations arising from unlawful acts II. (special factual bases of liability for damage, compensation for damage and non-pecuniary damage)


13.  Fundamentals of European Union law (the concept of the European Union, history, founding treaties, legal regulations of the European Union)
