Student must submit current medical certificate of his medical fitness for work in the laboratory of conservation center, where he works and manipulates with chemicals (acids, bases, volatile substances etc.)and uses chemical-physical instruments.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is a thorough acquaintance of students with the issue of conservation and restoration of museum collection objects made of wood, incl. archeological, paper and silicates (glass, ceramics, stone, or plaster). Emphasis will also be placed on the treatment of artifacts composed of a combination of materials. Methods, research, preventive and remediation conservation and restoration of artifacts from the above materials will be discussed. Students apply theoretical knowledge in practical exercises and seminar papers.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - describe the principle of methods used for conservation and restoration of objects made of silicates, wood and paper - propose an intervention procedure for the above mentioned materials - carry out work on objects made of the above-mentioned materials.

    1. Silicates as material. 2. Properties, degradation and research of ceramics. 3. Conservation and restoration procedures for ceramics. 4. Properties, degradation and exploration of glass. 5. Conservation and restoration of glass. 6. Properties and degradation of stone. Conservation and restoration procedures for stone. 7. Specifics of protection of masonry buildings. 8. Wood as a material. 9. Properties, degradation and preservation procedures for wood. Preservation of dry wood. 10. Properties, degradation and preservation procedures for wood. Preservation of wet (archaeological) wood. 11. Specifics of protection of wooden architecture. 12. Properties, degradation and research of paper. 13. Conservation and restoration procedures for paper.

Teaching methods
Frontal teaching. A Lab exercise.
Assessment methods
Participation in laboratory exercises min. 80%. Successful completion of the final test and elaboration and presentation of seminar work.
