Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
This one semester course should introduce basic methods of archaeozoology, i.e. skeletal anatomy of individual animal species, age assessment based on tooth abrasion and postcranial skeleton etc. and the methods of documentation and excavation of faunal skeletons on archaeological sites. New methods in palaeogenetical studies, together with stable isotope analyses for assessing the origin, migration and diet of animals and palaeoenviromental reconstructions will be presented during the course. The possibilities to reconstruct the way of life of prehistoric people basing on the above mentioned methods. The course includes exercises, in which osteological material originating from the most common animal species will be presented to the students.

  • 1. Historie.
    2. Vyzvednutí a laboratorní zpracování osteologického materiálu.
    3. Základní anatomické pojmy.
    4. Základy anatomie lebky, zubů a kostry pleistocenních a holocenních zvířat.
    5. Základní rozdíly ve stavbě lebky, zubů a kostry u člověka a zvířat.
    6. Pohlaví zvířat a určování věku zvířat a člověka.
    7. Paleogenetika
    8.Využití stabilních izotopů pro rekonstrukci migrací, paleoekologie a výživy zvířat a člověka
    9. Paleopatologie.
    10. Tafonomie.
    11. Paleoekologie.
    12. Rekonstrukce vzhledu zvířat a člověka.
