Cíle předmětu
The aim of the course is two-fold. Firstly, it intends to acquaint the students with classic works of the English-written literary canon by means of acclaimed film adaptations of these works. Secondly, individual scenes taken from the films and shown to the students will then serve as platforms for conversation practice. Conversational exercises stemming from the shown episodes will cover a wide range of language-use - from providing simple descriptions to giving complex opinions. The activities will involve role-playing, acting, monologues, dialogues and group discussions. Thus the course will not only bring classic examples of English literature to the students' attention, it will also enable them to relate to these texts through practical use of English in a variety of situations simulating those encountered by the characters in the chosen films.
