Course objectives
The aim of this class is an introduction into the analysis and interpretation of short nonficitonal and fiction texts in prose, in particular into the most important stylistic and linguistic elements of both (groups of) genres. I shall start here from short literary texts, including experimental examples which may seem strange at first sight. The class is based on 'learning by doing', that is, analysis and interpretation of texts is learnt at best by productive adaption of these genres of scholarly writing. This is why different exercises in writing which change or complete present texts will be essential parts of the seminar. Recommended reading and example texts will be provided by the teacher; evtl. via Moodle.
