- Course objectives
- In this course, students are informed about literary historical methods and concepts with the emphasis on Czech tradition in literary criticism and actual discussion about possibilities to (re)construct history.
- Syllabus
- Topics of the course: emergence of literary history (as Literaturwissenschaft) and positivism, the concepts of Geisteswissenschaft a antiposivism, literary evolution in formalism, structuralistic project, Marxism a sociological approaches, hermeneutics and the Constance school, challenging literary historical essentialism: R. Barthes, H. White, historiography as narration (P. Veyne); Foucault's impulse and its importance for literary history; new historicism; contemporary Czech discussion on writing history.
