Course objectives
The course objective is to acquaint students with anatomy, histology, physiology, pathological anatomy, and the pathophysiology of the gingiva and periodontium. Understanding the theory of the development of gingivitis and periodontitis.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can define concepts related to anatomy, histology, physiology, pathological anatomy, pathophysiology of the gingiva and periodontitis and theory of the development of gingivitis and periodontitis.
Professional Skills: Students can use expert terminology.
General Qualification: Students are well versed in the terminology and understand the principles.
Competences: Students will have theoretical knowledge of the periodontium and gingiva, and be able to explain the principles of the development of periodontitis.

  • Lectures:
  • 1. Topographic anatomy of the oral cavity.
  • 2. Anatomy and histology of teeth, gingival and periodontal diseases.
  • 3. Physiology of the teeth, gingiva and periodontium diseases.
  • Seminars:
  • 1. Dental plaque, composition, origin.
  • 2. Pathology and patofyziology of teeth, gingival and periodontal diseases.
  • 3. Histology of the oral mucousa.
  • 4. Microbiological colonization of the oral cavity.

Credit requirements: 100% attendance at the seminars (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
