Course objectives
LECTURE Subject of Social Communication in the Helping Professions aims to familiarize students with notions and concepts from the theory of communication. The base will consist of the concept of social behavior, communication theory, knowledge of interpersonal communication, etc. Therewill also be emphasis on the acquisition of communication skills, knowledge of specific communication processes among workers in the helping professions and to enhance knowledge in the prevention of misunderstandings in interpersonal communication. In addition, the lecture aims to make students understand the importance of using techniques of active listening and empathy in a counseling interview executives and acquire new strategies in managing conflict and aggression in the communication process. EXERCISES Exercises of Social Communication in the Helping Professions follow the lectures of the course, where topics are developed theoretically followed by practical learning in exercises. In exercises, students will map their own experience with the effects of personality on the specifics of communication and learn techniques expanding verbal and nonverbal communication. In addition, students learn in the workshop to practice active listening, guidance counseling interviews, effective communication and conflict resolution and group work with group dynamics.

    1. Social relations (social perception, interaction, communication).
    2. Basic communication models.
    3. Verbal communication (its meaning, content of the speech, paralinguistic, barriers to communication, communication technology). Technique of verbal speech.
    4. Nonverbal communication. Body language. Image.
    5. Active listening.
    6. Empathy. Emotional intelligence.
    7. Conflict and aggression in communication.
    8. Interviews. Counseling interview.
    9. Communications in the group.
    10. Interpersonal conflict.
    11. Personality typology of workers in the helping professions. Specifics of Communication in the helping professions. Burnout syndrome and helping.
    12. Communication and the problematic client. Types of users.
    EXERCISES
    1. Introduction to social communication, individual outputs.
    2. Mapping the influence of personality on the specifics of communication.
    3. Techniques for developing verbal and nonverbal communication.
    4. Practice of active listening.
    5. The development of empathy.
    6. Effective conflict resolution and management of aggression.
    7. Practicing counseling interviews.
    8. Training communications group, working with group dynamics, psychological games.
    9. The development of communication skills using video training.
