Course objectives
The theoretical part of classroom sessions provides an overview of the underlying concepts in BasaleStimulation. In the practical part, students will be trained in model situations while learning to identify and satisfy the needs of patients with altered communicative and perceptive abilities. The objective of the course is to: help students achieve a level of specialist knowledge and skills sufficient to foster implementation of the BasaleStimulation concept in clinical practice (course graduates will be able to provide highly specialized and qualified care within the scope of nursing), induce attitude changes in students toward patient´s personality and family, assist students in learning to provide active nursing care tailored to client needs with proper regard for client autonomy and dignity, guide students to actively support patients´

    1. Key elements in BasaleStimulation - overview
    2. Clinical applications of the initial touch, proper placement
    3. Documentation of the initial touch in patient records
    4. Somatic stimulation - facilitating client´s respiration
    5. Contact breathing
    6. Facilitation of breathing by massage
    7. Nest postion, mummy position
    8. Care plan design in BasaleStimulation
    9. Client biography
    10. Family engagement in the process of care

>80 per cent attendance (extra tasks will be provided for missed lessons),active participation, classroom presentation on a selected issue, credits will be granted after submission of 2-5 pages typed essay (the essay should feature a case description - physical/mental/social status of a given client, plus reaction and changes yielded by implementation of BS methods in client care)
