Cíle předmětu
The study course is focused on definition of evidence-based practice and its core principles. It introduces the common methods and principles of levels of evidence and teaches how to understandthe integration of research evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences.
Výstupy z učení
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Define evidence-based practice and its core principles
Formulate clinical questions using the PICO framework
Identify and evaluate different levels of evidence
Critically appraise research studies relevant to nursing practice
Apply EBM principles to clinical decision-making scenarios
Understand the integration of research evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences

  • • Question types: Therapy, diagnosis, prognosis, harm
  • • Practical workshop: Students develop PICO questions from clinical scenarios
  • • Group discussion: Refining questions for searchability
  • Session 3: Finding and Accessing Evidence
  • • Database navigation: PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library
  • • Search strategies: Boolean operators, MeSH terms, filters
  • • Hands-on practice: Guided database searching
  • • Resource identification: Guidelines, systematic reviews, primary studies
  • Session 4: Critical Appraisal and Application
  • • Appraisal tools: Checklists for different study designs
  • • Statistical literacy: Understanding p-values, confidence intervals, effect sizes

Final assessment: Critical appraisal of a nursing research article with implementation recommendations
1. Continuous Assessment (40% of total grade): Active participation in all 4 sessions (40%); Mandatory attendance and engagement in practical exercises
2. Final Assessment (60% of total grade): Critical Analysis of a Research Article
• Selection of one nursing research article from the last 5 years
• Critical evaluation using a structured form (provided by instructor)
• Length: 1000–1200 words
• Submission deadline: 2 weeks after course completion
