Předpoklady
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical unit. The aim is to familiarize students with diagnoses that require hospitalization in a neurosurgical department and with the implementation of the nursing process in a neurosurgical setting (ICU/ARO). The student will acquire knowledge in the field of neurosurgery, will be able to identify potential complications in patients, assess the neurological condition of the patient, and communicate with patients/children with cognitive function impairments.

Cíle předmětu
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical unit. Výstupy z učení
The student knows the most common conditions leading to the hospitalization of an adult or pediatric patient in a neurosurgical clinic. They possess the necessary knowledge to implement the nursing process in neurosurgery and can describe the specifics of nursing care for adult and pediatric patients in a neurosurgical setting. Professional Skills: The student has the necessary skills to implement the nursing process in neurosurgery. They can apply specific nursing procedures for patients with neurosurgical diagnoses. The student will understand communication techniques suitable for neurosurgical patients. General Competence: The student possesses the knowledge and skills required to carry out the nursing process in neurosurgery. After completing the course, the student is qualified to actively care for patients using the nursing process method, within the competencies defined by legislation.

Course Content – Lectures: Craniocerebral injuries – types of traumatic hemorrhages, craniofacial fractures Neuro-oncology – spinal cord and vertebral oncology, craniocerebral oncology Vascular neurosurgery Peripheral nerve surgery Neurointensive care Hydrocephalus and treatment options Pediatric neurosurgery Course Content – Practical Sessions: Nursing care for neurosurgical patients in ICU/ARO Nursing care for patients after craniocerebral trauma Nursing care for patients with subdural hemorrhage (acute, subacute, chronic) Nursing care for patients with epidural hemorrhage Nursing care for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage Nursing care for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage Nursing care after tumor resection (tumor types, surgical approaches) Nursing care after spinal fracture stabilization Nursing care after resection of spinal tumors (including surgical approaches) Nursing care after aneurysm or AVM embolization Nursing care after carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve, and radial nerve surgeries Nursing care after cerebrospinal fluid drainage surgery (external lumbar drainage, external ventricular drainage, shunts) Nursing care for pediatric neurosurgical patients

Výukové metody
Teaching methods: lecture, instruction, demonstration, role-playing, discussion, self-study.
Metody hodnocení
Completion of 80% attendance in classes, demonstration of active participation, and continuous assessment of theoretical and practical knowledge during the course are required for credit. (If a student is unable to attend the mandatory classes for serious reasons, the instructor will determine an alternative way to fulfill the study requirements.) Passing a written test is also a condition for obtaining the credit. Credit requirement: a seminar paper on a given topic.
