Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic concepts in the field of tourism market, competition, the structure of the satellite account of tourism, economics and management of tourism, including the efficiency of the tourism company.
Learning outcomes
- identify and summarize important actors and elements of the tourism market;
- identify and describe the structure of the tourism satellite account, define tourism products and sectors;
- write an essay defining a pluralistic society in relation to democratic principles;
- characterize tourism organizations, both in Europe and in the world;
- describe the organization and management of regional tourism;
- explain the efficiency of the tourism company, calculate costs, revenues and economic result.
Syllabus
  • 1. Tourism, importance and market of tourism Tourism and importance for the economy. Typology and function of tourism, specification of basic components of tourism. Tourism services and their classification. 2. Tourism market Concept of tourism market, market subjects and market objects of tourism, supply in tourism, demand in tourism, consumption in tourism. 3. Price and competition in the tourism market Price and factors influencing price formation, pricing practices, price discrimination and its forms. Competitiveness and its measurement, approaches to   achieving a competitive advantage. 4. Tourism Satellite Account Basic structure of tourism satellite account, basic TSA system, TSA tables. Definition of characteristic industries and products of travel ear. Unofficial satellite account of tourism. 5. Institutional management and organization of tourism Tourism organization, assumptions, legal forms, principles of activity. Strategies of tourism organizations and their impact on the region. Basic types of tourism organizations in the EU and in the world, European and international associations. 6. Economics and management of tourism Basic information from the field of economics and management of regional tourism, benefits and negative impacts of tourism development in the region. Tourism management system and organization of tourism in regions, sustainable development of tourism. 7. Efficiency of a tourism company Costs, revenues and economic result in tourism enterprises. Business efficiency, methods of comprehensive business evaluation.
