Course objectives
In the lectures, students will get acquainted with the basics of the geography of tourism, including the definition of concepts, factors of development and distribution of tourism. There will also be a presentation of the geography of tourism in the Czech Republic and in selected regions of Europe and non-European regions.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to define the geography of tourism and explain its fundamental concepts and principles. They will be able to describe and analyse the factors influencing the spatial distribution of tourism and classify and typologise selected tourism attractions. Students will be able to characterise various forms and types of tourism and apply the principles of tourism regionalisation to tourism regions and destinations. They will be capable of collecting and analysing tourism-related data from a variety of sources and evaluating the economic, social, and environmental aspects of tourism development in different destinations. Furthermore, students will be able to identify and analyse the selective, localisation, and implementation factors that influence tourism development. They will be able to provide examples of significant heritage sites in the Czech Republic and explain the distinction between a National Cultural Monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Students will be able to compare tourism regions within the Czech Republic from a tourism perspective and define the concept of an ecological destination. They will be capable of analysing selected ecological destinations in the Czech Republic and evaluating their role in sustainable tourism development. In addition, students will be able to divide Europe into its major subregions, identify the principal tourism destinations within each subregion, and characterise their distinctive tourism products. They will be able to provide examples of major tourist attractions within selected European subregions and compare and evaluate different types of ecotourism destinations across Europe. Finally, students will be able to characterise the major tourism destinations of selected world regions, explain the key factors influencing their development, and describe the predominant forms and types of tourism associated with those regions.
Syllabus
1. Basics of tourism geography
Subject of study of tourism geography and its methods, attractiveness, forms and types of tourism, classification, typologization and regionalization of areas and centers of tourism.
2. Infrastructure, services and potential of tourism
Economic, social and ecological aspects of tourism development, selective, localization and implementation factors of tourism development.
3. Regionalization of tourism in the Czech Republic

Municipal monument reserves and zones, UNESCO monuments, national cultural monuments, church monuments, technical monuments, tourist regions of the Czech Republic, including a brief introduction to selected eco-friendly destinations in the Czech Republic.


4. Regionalization of tourism 1


States of Southern, Western, Central, Northern and Eastern Europe. Selected eco-friendly destinations in Europe will also be presented here.
