The aim of the two-year follow-up Master's program in English Language is primarily to provide a deeper understanding of the linguistic system and its principles, along with a broader knowledge of English-language literature and literary criticism. Additionally, the program develops practical language skills. Another goal is to acquire knowledge of the development and diverse forms of English-language literature and to gain skills in literary text interpretation. Emphasis is placed on cultural plurality, which is a distinctive feature of both historical and modern Anglophone literary texts. Furthermore, the program focuses on translation disciplines and a contrastive approach to language. The English Language study program is designed to allow maximum permeability between accredited study programs at Silesian University, offering students the opportunity to expand their qualifications in line with labor market demands and to enhance their employability.

- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- masters the principles of the English language system;
- demonstrates knowledge of the literary history of English-language literatures and their global context;
- demonstrates knowledge of the methodology and terminology of theoretical disciplines in linguistics and literary criticism and scholarship;
- is well oriented in the culture of English-speaking countries;
- has basic knowledge of the principles of artistic and specialized translation and selected translation techniques;
- can perform a linguistic analysis of a text and take into account all fundamental language levels;
- can perform a literary analysis of a text and identify and describe the characteristic features of the various developmental stages of English-language literature;
- is able to translate a text from Czech to English and from English to Czech;
- Is able to apply acquired theoretical knowledge in both oral and written expression. Furthermore, the graduate can independently produce a qualification thesis while meeting all the requirements for this type of work;
- can search for information in scholarly literature and work with it;
- has mastered spoken and written English at the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- Is able to independently search for information, evaluate it, and formulate hypotheses based on it. Can verify the validity of these hypotheses and draw their own conclusions;
- Is able to publicly present their opinions and hypotheses in English.
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of this study program will be language specialists with the widest possible employability. Since the program is academically oriented, there is also the possibility of continuing studies in a corresponding doctoral program. Potential employers include cultural and educational institutions, international companies, marketing firms, and more. In general, graduates can pursue careers in positions that require strong communication skills.
The study program also includes instruction in a second foreign language (German or Italian), further expanding graduates' career opportunities. Those entering the job market can find employment in the following professions:

- Rules and Conditions for the Creation of a Study Plan
The creation of study plans is based on the standards and methodology recommended by the National Accreditation Office and follows the rules of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Any changes to these plans require approval from the Academic Senate of FPF SU. Students are evaluated according to the unified ECTS grading scale. The length of a semester is 13 weeks, and one lesson typically lasts 45 minutes.
Rules for Study Plan Development:
The structure of the study plan and the distribution of credits among subject groups are specified in Annex B-II.
Study plans are designed to ensure students acquire the defined learning outcomes and skills, leading to the fulfillment of the graduate profile.
Credit allocation reflects either the hourly workload of a course or its level of difficulty.
The study plan structure adheres to the Recommended Guidelines for the Preparation of Study Programs.
The core curriculum consists of compulsory and compulsory elective courses, which students must complete to be eligible for the final state examination.
These courses include foundational subjects in linguistics and literature, as well as profile-defining courses.
The Thesis Seminar 1 and 2 are also part of the compulsory courses.
Credit Requirements:
To complete the program, students must earn 120 ECTS credits, distributed as follows:
Compulsory courses: 53 credits
Compulsory elective courses (PVA + PVB): 55 credits
Elective courses: 12 credits
The 12 elective credits can be chosen from courses offered in other study programs at FPF SU or from remaining subjects in the PVA and PVB groups."
