Abstract
In the original language
This paper is based on the characterization of the role of public administration regarding the problem solving of brownfields, especially in relation to its regeneration. The regeneration of abandoned and unused areas and buildings has been recognized as a key instrument in the sustainable land management. The conversion of brownfields is more effective and should be more acceptable to the public than the utilization of free developable land because of scarce and more expensive resource, especially in densely populated areas. That is why it is necessary to engage the public administration in cases in which the private sector is failing. This paper summarizes some of the selected tools of the public administration for problem solving of brownfields, and particularly defines the instruments of financial nature including the possibility of financing from EU funds (European Structural an Investment Funds and other) as well. Standard secondary data are used and combined with data from primary research carried out in relation to this subject in the city of Karviná (Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic).
