N2  - The globalized world offers equally globalized opportunities and forms of interaction between and among people. Yet alongside the endorsed e- communication and non-stop availability in the online world, there runs a simultaneous desire to be outside the reach of modern technologies and to interact with others on purely personal, physical level, or not at all, as the popularity of dark and/or solitary retreats manifest.The interplays between the local and global are discussed in Emma Donoghue’s (b. 1969) novel Landing (2007), which explores negotiations between a modern long-distance e-romance, and the commitment to one’s local landscape and community that forms an essential part of the lovers’ identities.
