Course objectives
The course is focused on cultural heritage both factually and linguistically. The aim of the course is to increase language skills, work with foreign language information sources and create foreign language presentations in relation to cultural history and cultural heritage. The aim is to provide students with a basic overview and at the same time to broaden and deepen their knowledge of terminology in the field of the history of Czech lands, cultural, natural and archaeological heritage, and UNESCO monuments in the Czech Republic, intangible cultural heritage and cultural heritage of Silesia. Students expand vocabulary in architecture, painting, sculpture, literature, theatre, film and music.
Learning outcomes
Students will expand their vocabulary on the topics covered and will be able to discuss them in German.
Syllabus
1. Introduction, literature, sources of information, technical terminology, cultural property protection.
    2. Culture and cultural heritage.
  3. Natural heritage and protection of natural heritage; archaeological heritage.
  4. Architecture as part of cultural heritage – architectural styles and their stylistic elements, stylistic periods.
  5 – 7. Religious monuments; castles and palaces; town/village zones/reserves.
    8. Fine arts – painting and sculpture; museums and galleries.
9. History of Czech music.
10. History of literature.
11. History of the Czech lands.
12. UNESCO cultural heritage in the Czech Republic.
13. Cultural heritage in Silesia – tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
