- Course objectives
- The course presents Silesia, currently divided between the Czech Republic and Poland, as a historical land "on the border of three cultures", Czech, Polish and German. This fact, which is still manifested in various forms in everyday life, is very clearly reflected in the content and external forms of cultural heritage in relation to its local and chronological background. The course segments briefly outline the development of Silesia, decisive milestones of its political and cultural-social history, with an emphasis on the administrative development in the context of the development of state borders and the nationality of Silesia. The most important cultural and historical regions of Silesia are characterised (Lower/Upper Silesia, particular historical principalities, Catholic/Evangelical areas, specific industrial regions, areas of distinctive folk culture, etc.). Kladsko, nowadays counted among the Silesian regions, is taken into account. It presents significant monuments - singularities and complexes of cultural heritage (buildings, art, folk customs and traditions, gastronomic specialities, etc.)
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to orientate himself/herself in the basic problems of Silesian history in different development stages, its cultural history, cultural heritage and monuments, etc.; he/she will be able to analyze, evaluate and interpret information sources related to the topic; present historical aspects and cultural history of Silesia.
