Course objectives
The subject represents two close segments of cultural heritage associated with the development of settlements, namely urban and rural settlements and their cultural heritage (urban and rural complexes, religious and profane immovable monuments, complexes and solitaires of specific functions; guilds, commercial, agricultural documents, etc.), set in the cultural landscape. It focuses on tangible evidence, reminding of connections to intangible cultural heritage (especially customs, traditions). It pays attention to the forms of preservation and presentation (authentic documents in the field, open-air museums and museum exhibitions, installed objects - homesteads, farm buildings, and production facilities) and forms of their conservation in the Czech Republic and in the international context. It recalls the importance of urban tourism as the most profitable component of cultural tourism and agro-tourism as a specific form of leisure, part of cultural tourism organised in rural areas. It draws attention to the differences between authentic agro-tourism in a functional environment with the possibility of consuming farm products and engaging in agricultural activities as relaxation activities on one hand (especially Poland, Austria) and offering rural recreation in newly established, though relatively faithfully designed facilities without their own production on the other (Czech Republic). Field presentations/excursions are an integral part of this (conservation area/zone; open-air museum; agro-tourism facilities, etc.).
Learning outcomes
The student is able to characterize cultural heritage associated with the development of cities, urban areas and elements, villages and rural areas, theoretically and practically recognize, identify, describe and evaluate urban and rural cultural heritage according to categories /tangible - movable and immovable, intangible/, according to social, cultural and historical context. Knows and can use basic terminology, sources and literature. Is prepared to deepen his/her knowledge in specialised subjects focusing on types and types of cultural heritage, etc.
