Course objectives

The course verifies the knowledge of historiography with regard to the specialization of the doctoral student and his ability to think about the issues of Czech and Czechoslovak history on a theoretical level. The exam consists of a pair of questions, one of which focuses on the history of historiography, the other on methodological and theoretical issues of historical science. The doctoral student is guided to reflect on currently applied methodological approaches, theories and concepts in relation to the period and topic of the dissertation. In addition to Czech and Bohemian theoretical and methodological literature, the course also focuses on theories and concepts currently used in world historiography.

The student will be able to: -summarize the basic developmental tendencies of Czech historiography -orientation in methodological issues

• After consultation with the supervisor, approximately ten to fifteen titles of historiographical-methodological literature of domestic and foreign provenance will be assigned for self-study. Literature is assigned with regard to the topic and chronological scope of the dissertation. During the oral exam, there is a discussion of the study literature. The exam consists of one question on methodology and one question on historiography.
