Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to intensify students' knowledge and proficiency in scholarly editing and textology through interpretation of selected texts or problems.
Learning outcomes
The main content of the seminar is to prepare a critical edition of selected literary text. The edition is meant as a collective work of students, supervised by teacher. The target is a text prepared for publishing.

  • Terms and concepts.
  • Manuscripts and books (premodern and modern literature).
  • Author (premodern and modern literature).
  • Diletant versus editor (the case study: Vincenc Furch).
  • From manuscript to edition (Ostrovská píseň The Song of Ostrov).
  • Život sv. Kateřiny (The Life ot St. Catherina of Siena) – edition, translation, aparatus criticus.
  • Život Jozefóv (The Life of Joseph of Egypt) – variae lectiones.
  • Vydávání K. H. Máchy – problémy a jejich řešení.
  • Silesian Songs of Petr Bezruč – question of scholarly editing.
  • Editing and publishing of correspondence (A. Novák, F. X. Šalda).
  • Publishing of modern poetry as editorial work: textual sources and question of textual process (the case study: O. Theer).
  • Publishing of modern prose as editorial work: varianta and their literárněhistorická interpretation (the case study: R. Svobodová).
  • Textology, scholarly editing and the question of regional literature (writing in dialects).
