Course objectives
The aim of the lecture is to familiarize the audience with the basics of theater theory hand in hand with the basics of theater terminology. Attention will be paid to all theatrical components and their mutual relationship, the same emphasis will be placed on key works and authors who theoretically deal with them. An integral part of the course is the presentation of various theatrical methodological approaches, points of view and schools. During the course, other specialist literature will be recommended, the explanation will be supplemented with examples and student reports.
Learning outcomes

Syllabus
  • 1. The concept of theater and its transformations. Basic prerequisites for the creation and existence of the theater.
  • 2. The artistic specificity of theater and its place within other arts. Time and space in theater and drama.
  • 3. Components of theatrical expression, their hierarchy in the theatrical artefact. Construction of the production and its components.
  • 4. The emergence and changes of modern European directing in relation to the development of dramaturgy.
  • 5. The emergence and changes of modern Czech directing in relation to dramaturgy and with regard to the European context.
  • 6. Drama and theatrical (scenic) space: the origin, types and transformations of modern stage art and the development of European scenography.
  • 7. Theatre: institution, building, space, set, operation, method of communication, possibly expression and/or art.
  • 8. Thinking about the theater. Main representatives of world theater theory.
  • 9. Thinking about the theater. Main representatives of Czech theater theory.
  • 10. Theatrical text – characteristics and specificity. Drama, attempts to define it. Building the drama.
  • 11. Theater types and genres, genres of drama.
  • 12. Transformations of the drama. The development of drama in the context of theater history 1.
  • 13. Transformations of the drama. The development of drama in the context of theater history 2.
