Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gain an overview of the creation and functions of electronic archives and archives of electronic prints in the field of science, technology and medicine. The course builds on theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the field of digital libraries. The theoretical part explains the activities and processes of creating electronic archives. It defines the basic principles of open access to scientific information and information resources, including the use in the creation and use of electronic archives in the digital environment of the Internet. The content of the seminar is based on and follows the content of the lecture.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and summarize important developments in e-archives ;
- identify and describe modern principles of creation and operation of e-archives;
- describe the factors that influence the use of e-archives in the fields of science, technology, medicine, etc .;
- compare and specify interface and different elements with digital libraries in the Internet.
Syllabus
  • Electronic archives - definition, terminology, historical aspects, digitization, types of digital objects (sources) and their formats, current activities, current status and meaning
  • Changes in information communication - basic elements, parts, categories, current state of information communication in science and research, legislative and copyright aspects
  • Application issues 2.0 - purpose, function, use, typology and classification, science 2.0, open science, open data
  • Interconnection and standardization - system of cooperation of electronic archives, international standards, OAI open archives initiative
  • Practical presentation and search in selected electronic archives of postprints and preprints - significance and functions for the development of scientific disciplines
