Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the historical development and the history of the culture of ancient Greece and Rome, early medieval Europe and the period of the late feudalism.

Course objectives
The Student has to get a basic overview of the history of education in ancient Greece and Rome, the most outstanding personalities and institutions, which are in this area of ancient culture linked to understand the context, causes and development leading to the transmission and transformation of the ancient cultural heritage in early medieval Europe, which led to the emergence of a network of schools, the founding of universities.
Learning outcomes
The student will acquire or expand his knowledge of the culture and education of the ancient and early medieval world. He is able to characterize the differences between the ancient and medieval scholarship, understands the heritage of the Antiquity/Latin language in a broader historical context; the importance of Latin for medieval education and the development of education in monasteries, cities and universities.

    10. The relationship of Christianity to the heritage of the ancient world.
    11. Momasteries and eduation - Charles the Great .
    12. The emergence of urban colleges and universities.
