- Course objectives
- The course introduces students to the issue of creating maps and other cartographic aids in the historical context of geographical discoveries from antiquity to the 20th century. The student will gain knowledge with two-dimensional and three-dimensional records of objects, terrain, world and phenomena and events in it, especially about the results of cartographic work, its form. They will also get acquainted with the informative value of maps and globes, with the use in historical work, with the history of cartographic creation and with the basic documents of such activities in the Czech lands, incl. their availability. Basic analysis and description of the result of cartographic work. The course further clarifies the topography of the border of the Czech Republic and its border areas outside the state border, outlines their development and historical ties to the Czech Republic, captures territorial changes (and changes in the state borders) and Czechoslovak efforts to maintain or restore ties to the Czech state, the current state and adjustment of the state borders of the Czech Republic.

- The student will be acquainted with the issue of creating maps and other cartographic aids in the historical context of geographical discoveries from antiquity to the 20th century.

- 1.-2. Geographical discoveries of antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Modern Age within the world, travelers from the Czech lands 3. Definition, construction and types of plan, maps, globe 4. Map envelope, map file, atlas 5. Construction of an old plan, map, globe 6.-7. Private and state map creation in the Czech lands from ancient times to the present 8.-9. Topography of the Czech border and border areas - orographic units and water, settlements 10. Dyjsko - Moravian triangle and Valtice; border on the river Dyje 11. Vitorazsko; borders in Šumava and Český les, Sušice, Horní Palatinate, Cheb region 12. Borders in the Ore Mountains; Donínsko; Lusatia; Kladsko 13. Silesia - Hlubčicko, Ratibořsko, Hlučínsko, Těšínsko
