Course objectives
The selected lecture contains an overview of the development of the currency officially circulating in the territory of the present Czech Republic from the beginning of the 18th century until the creation of the Czech currency after 1993.
Learning outcomes
The selected lecture contains an overview of the development of the currency officially circulating in the territory of the present Czech Republic from the beginning of the 18th century until the creation of the Czech currency after 1993. It gives an overview of the individual monetary instruments in terms of numismatic aspects, but also highlights important moments in the fluctuations in the value of various currency units, lists financial crises and favourable periods of currency development. Considerable attention is also paid to the various financial and economic concepts that have influenced monetary development. The influence of a number of political decisions and events, both in terms of domestic and international policy, on the development of the monetary systems of the time in this country is also highlighted. Monetary issues are set in the broader context of economic development. At the same time, the changing function of the cedula bank is explained and an overview is given of the development of financial institutions, i.e. mainly banks and insurance companies. Particular attention is paid to the explanation of monetary reforms, separations, etc.
