Course objectives

In lecture course supplemented by seminar students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the use of documentation system for recording DEMUS II. degrees of museum collection items in description and classification of artefacts, the use of statistical methods to evaluate the similarity relations between collections. Special emphasis is placed on the description of shape (morphometrics artefact) and classification using cluster analysis methods. Specific applications is demonstrated on the example of descriptive analysis and classification of articles of the ceramics. The course is characterized by activities associated with localization (characterization of the place of discovery) of the object (object) in space and spatial interpretation of the data object.

Syllabus

• 1. CIDOC draft directive for general informational statements collector's items. ICOM-CIDOC data model for documenting the collections of museums.
  2.Informační system DEMUS. Subsystem evidence. Subsystem catalog.
  3. Methodology for processing scientific data using computational techniques.
  4. Internal and external description of the collection. Classification of articles.
  5. Descriptive analysis of ceramics. Guest similarity relations between collection items using the coefficient of association and the metric coefficient. The use of cluster analysis to classify the collection.
  6. Information about the discovery (localization) of the object in space. Spatial interpretation of data about the object. Coordinate systems. Geographic Information System. Proposed structure of recording information about the spatial location of the object.
