- Course objectives
- The aim of the seminar is to introduce and bring to the basics of art-work in the museum and gallery, mainly based on expert processing art historical collections for the recognition of authorship or attribution, dating, provenance, material, equipment, formal-style description and identification of artistic quality, including artistic and cultural-historical context, dealing with literature, and specific examples of different kinds of art and / or art and craft works (painting, sculpture, graphics, drawing, art-craft - ceramics, porcelain, jewelry, glass, etc.). The necessary knowledge of the basic concepts and terminology of applied art history and connoisseurship in the field of fine arts - painting, sculpture, drawing, and in the case of arts and crafts. The seminar also outlines the basic art historical approaches to art and the possibilities of its exploration and interpretation and use of museum and gallery work, including the possibility of their presentation in the permanent exhibition (its possibilities and limits). The seminar will present the basics of working with literature and writing academic texts.
- Syllabus
- 1. Cultural assumptions of academic and applied art history (art history at the university and in the museum and gallery institutions).
2. Basic concepts of art history (from the Vienna school of art history to the contemporary approaches
3. Basics of work of art historian at the museum / gallery - the question of the authorship, attribution, subject, iconographic aspects, materials, techniques, stylistic classification and dating, a variety of possible interpretations and approaches to art associated with this terminology
4. The basic concept of selections and presentation of works of art, historical excursion from Kunstkammer to virtual museums, limits and possibilities of permanent exhibitions
5. Expressive means of images and sculpture works, the basis of formal-analytical description of painting, sculpture and graphic works and works of applied arts (ceramics, porcelain, glass, jewelry, etc.) and practical exercises on specific examples
6. Basic knowledge (history, signs, production, scientific literature) in the field of ceramics (Haban, Proskov and Delft faience), porcelain (Meissen, Vienna, selected porcelain manufactory in Bohemian lands), goldsmithery (Opava goldsmiths), art of glass, etc.
