- Course objectives
- Contents of the tuition is to inform students with the development of fortification from the premieval times upto the first quarter of the 16th century in the context of historical events of both wide and local accomplishement. In history fortifications played an important role in the powerful and political fights but also in the rescue of lives and properties of people.The aim is to learn students about the purposes and functions of individual categories of fortificated objects and then about the corresponding changes in architecture,building technology, war means and ways of fighting and all of that in historical context.It is also important to orientate oneself in terminology, typology and together with that to recognise, classify and date individual kinds of fortifications.

- 1 / Fortification of human settlements from the Neolithic to the expansion of the Roman Empire in our country in confrontation with the ancient empires of the Near East and southern and western Europe.
2 / Fortification of European antiquity with regard to the organization of the Roman limit, its connection with the settlement structure and communication, continuous lines of research and marching camps.
3 / Partial recovery heritage of the ancient world in the early Middle Ages , dřevohlinité construction of Slavic and Germanic origin , genesis hradisek , types and composition of the walls (including Przemyslite ) .
4 / Reflection Antiquity in Byzantium , the Crusades - meeting architectures East and West , the beginnings of the development feudalization castles and nobility , their spread.
5 / functions and categories of fortified settlements , composition of functional cells. 6 / French castles , reform of Philip II . Augusta later use arms and separation strength and settlement functions. Norman qualitative leap in England , the peak for Edward I.
7 / Castles in countries with German feudalitou - the impact of territorial fragmentation , the role of the imperial buildings.
8 / Genesis Czech , Hungarian and Polish castles.
9 / Auxiliary typology of castles and fortresses , development and influence the reception of the documents.
10 / Fortified churches ( and refugia ) - characteristics in individual countries, developments and examples. Castles of the Teutonic Knights - development, design and dislocation. Fortifications of Central European cities - urban forming organisms , categories cities , progressive and diverse fortification , transformation in modern fortress. Temporary and field fortifications - corral , camps, siege objects , external fortifications. Responding to the development of siege techniques , tactics and resources , the impact of the application of arms. Spiritual and material culture of everyday life in a medieval castle , building components and equipment. History of research and literature .
