- Course objectives
- Main aim is to form student's critical thinking by giving practical tasks, introduce basic theatre-critics genres and develope student's analytic, discussion and polemic abilities.

- 1. Situation of contemporary theatre critique. Relationship between theatre nad critique. Functions and roles of theatre critique..
2. Czech theatre magazines, theatre critique and media space (magazines, cultural columns in daily print, theatre programs on the radio an television).
3. Profile of theatre critic and skills necessary for professional judgement of a production.
4. Personalities of contemporary Czech theatre critique.
5. Theatre-critics genres (analysis of model texts).
6. Theatre critique. Analysis of a theatre production emphasising the critical analysis of its individual components.
7. Critical reflexions and their evaluation.
8. Newspaper critique.
9. Conversation as part of critical reflection.
10. The concept of a periodic theatre magazine, basics of editorial practice, the ethics of journalism.

- Teacher's information
- 1. Participation in seminars (max. two absences are permitted).
2. Active participation in class discussions and analysis, based on the knowledge of prescribed literature.
3. Well-timed implementation of partial tasks.
4. Completion of the course paper - review of two theatre performances (approx. 4 standard pages of text). Unsatisfactory papers will be returned for revision.
5. Credits are awarded based on the submission of the course paper with respect to the student´s participation in course discussions during the semester.
